Abstract

Abdi-Basid ADAN (or Abdi-Basid Ibrahim Adan) : I am an independent researcher and the founder of the Abdi-Basid Courses Institute, established in 2017, where I create and share methodologies in statistics, data science, data mining, data visualization, and philosophical insights. My mission through the institute is to make advanced knowledge accessible by offering online training in applied statistics, data science, and interdisciplinary research methods.

I am also a Research Associate with over six years of experience in climate science and multidisciplinary research, with more than nine publications in esteemed international journals at CERD.

I hold a Master’s degree in Statistical and Econometric Methods (magna cum laude), specializing in using advanced statistical and econometric approaches to address critical issues in environmental science, climate change, green energy, and socio-economic challenges. I am fluent in French and English and skilled in R, Python, MATLAB, and GIS tools.

 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE :          

Oct.2022-Present:  As an Associate Researcher at ORREC within CERD in Djibouti, I conduct statistical analyses to understand spatio-temporal climate variations and their interactions with phenomena such as cyclones, ENSO, and the IOD. My work includes long-term trend analysis, covariability of climatic parameters, and the use of satellite data and remote sensing. I contribute to international scientific publications and have trained fellow researchers in multivariate statistical methods using R through accelerated courses, supporting capacity building in climate data analysis and environmental research.

May 2018-2022:    In my role as a Research Associate at the Modeling Laboratory of the Institute of Earth Sciences (IST), housed within the Center for Studies and Research in Djibouti (CERD), I focused on addressing statistical analysis requirements for performance evaluation, risk simulation, and the modeling of renewable energies. I assessed the cost of renewable energy production in Djibouti and evaluated the investment profitability of national green energy projects. I also conducted studies on precipitation patterns at the national scale and evaluated atmospheric pollution dispersion in the Djibouti-ville region. Furthermore, I actively contributed to the publication of scientific articles.

Dec. – Jan 2016 International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences (AIESEC-Senegal), Department of Business Development (BD). I was a member of the team responsible for organizing the meetings in Dakar. 

April-June 2015:    Center for Studies and Research of Djibouti (CERD). Senior technician in statistics. I was responsible for analyzing physico-chemical data from the Chemistry Laboratory.

21-31 Dec. 2014:    Red Sea Trade and Industry Bank (BCIMR) in Djibouti, Investigator. I was given a survey mission to collect and enter data. 

May-June 2014:   Health Information Service (SIS in French) of the pulmonology-phthisiology hospital of Doctor Chakib Saad Omar (CSO) in Djibouti, Senior Statistical Assistant. I was responsible for assessing the course of tuberculosis nationally and regionally.


 EXTRA-PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE : 

Dec. – Jan 2016    I worked with AIESEC Senegal's Business Plan team to coordinate meetings, seminars, festivities and so on. The aim is to pass on human values to the younger generation.

May-June 2014   I carried out a free satisfaction survey among patients hospitalized for tuberculosis at the Dr Chakib Saad Omar Pneumology-Physiology Hospital in Djibouti, with the aim of informing hospital management of their needs in terms of service quality.

Proposed several potential manuscript titles. Performed Principal Component Analysis (PCA) on multiple rainfall stations across Djibouti sub-regions and drafted the corresponding Results and Discussion sections. Project: Groundwater Vulnerability Assessment in the Republic of Djibouti Using the DRASTIC Method and Its Variants
Scientific contributions:
• Proposed the delineation of the study area and performed the DRASTIC analysis using pre-established TIFF files.
• Updated the land cover/land use parameter to reflect current environmental conditions.
• Calculated the classical DRASTIC, the DRASTIC-AHP, and the DRASTIC-MOEA models.
• Compared their performance using RMSE, correlation, and ROC-AUC curve analysis.
• Evaluated the sensitivity of parameters in each method and compared results with spatial autocorrelation analysis.
