Abdi-Basid ADAN (or Abdi-Basid Ibrahim Adan) : I am an independent researcher and the founder of The Abdi-Basid Courses Institute (tABCi), established in 2017, where I create and share methodologies in econometric and statistical analysis, data science, data mining, data visualization, and philosophical insights. My mission through the institute is to make advanced knowledge accessible by offering online training in applied statistics, data science, and interdisciplinary research methods.

I am also a Research Associate with over seven years of experience in climate science and multidisciplinary research, with more than nine publications in esteemed international journals at CERD.

I hold a Master’s degree in Statistical and Econometric Methods (magna cum laude), specializing in using advanced statistical and econometric approaches to address critical issues in environmental science, climate change, green energy, and socio-economic challenges. I am fluent in French and English and skilled in R, Python, MATLAB, and GIS tools.

I welcome opportunities for scientific collaboration and contributions.

 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE :

2025: Apr-Jun

As a Research Intern at the Climate Research Center (CRC) of the University of Burgundy in Dijon, France, I investigated the interactions between oceanic circulation patterns and temperature variability. My work involved conducting advanced time-series analyses, including the calculation of monthly cycles, deseasonalization, detrending, and correlation assessments between deseasonalized cycles and seasonal temperature variations. This research aimed to uncover the underlying drivers of climatic fluctuations and enhance the understanding of ocean-atmosphere dynamics in influencing local temperature regimes.

2024: Feb-May

As a Research Intern at the Climate Research Center (CRC) of the University of Burgundy in Dijon, France, I conducted a study on the "Variability of Air Temperatures and Its Implications on Heat Waves and Their Impacts on Public Health in the Republic of Djibouti (1953–2023)." My responsibilities included performing rigorous quality control and validation of daily temperature datasets and analyzing temperature variability across daily, monthly, and seasonal timescales.

2022-Present:

As an Associate Researcher at ORREC within CERD in Djibouti, I conduct statistical analyses to understand spatio-temporal climate variations and their interactions with phenomena such as cyclones, ENSO, and the IOD. My work includes long-term trend analysis, covariability of climatic parameters, and the use of satellite data and remote sensing. I contribute to international scientific publications and have trained fellow researchers in multivariate statistical methods using R through accelerated courses, supporting capacity building in climate data analysis and environmental research.

2018-2022: May - Oct

In my role as a Research Associate at the Modeling Laboratory of the Institute of Earth Sciences (IST), housed within the Center for Studies and Research in Djibouti (CERD), I focused on addressing statistical analysis requirements for performance evaluation, risk simulation, and the modeling of renewable energies. I assessed the cost of renewable energy production in Djibouti and evaluated the investment profitability of national green energy projects. I also conducted studies on precipitation patterns at the national scale and evaluated atmospheric pollution dispersion in the Djibouti-ville region. Furthermore, I actively contributed to the publication of scientific articles.

2016 Dec– Jan

International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences (AIESEC-Senegal), Department of Business Development (BD). I was a member of the team responsible for organizing the meetings in Dakar.

2015:  April-Jun

Center for Studies and Research of Djibouti (CERD). Senior technician in statistics. I was responsible for analyzing physico-chemical data from the Chemistry Laboratory.

2014: 21-31 Dec

Red Sea Trade and Industry Bank (BCIMR) in Djibouti, Investigator. I was given a survey mission to collect and enter data.

2014: May-Jun

Health Information Service (SIS in French) of the pulmonology-phthisiology hospital of Doctor Chakib Saad Omar (CSO) in Djibouti, Senior Statistical Assistant. I was responsible for assessing the course of tuberculosis nationally and regionally. I carried out a free satisfaction survey among patients hospitalized for tuberculosis at the Dr Chakib Saad Omar Pneumology-Physiology Hospital in Djibouti, with the aim of informing hospital management of their needs in terms of service quality.
